It’s been a while since we last wrote, and a lot has been on my mind. Although thinking back, I realized much of it was all tied into the essence of the World vs Heaven. Sometimes I can tend to be a little dramatic… bringing attention to myself is something I hate to admit. When I bring attention to myself, I am stealing attention from Jesus. Ouch!
Hiding myself in Christ doesn’t mean that I use sneaky means to bring attention to myself, rather it is the laying down of my life, and in taking on Christ my old identity is left behind. To resurrect that old identity and bring attention to myself is misplacing my treasure;
” Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasure in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:19-21
Such words are enough to make this outgoing & melodramatic soul crumple up with shame. Yet, self-condemnation is only of the devil. When you’ve realised a sinful attitude, don’t allow yourself to wallow in it’s mire, rather, feel the conviction, confess and then move forward in God’s grace.
Lay down your life at Jesus feet, and once again take on His identity, lay down your own life and turn your gaze upon Jesus. Here are a few practical tips for living an outward life that points to Christ;
- Seek fulfillment in Christ- Ultimately, when you have a life fully surrendered and a heart that desires nothing but the will of God, then self will be lost in the reflection of Christ… there’s only room for one on the throne of your heart. As you find fulfillment in Christ you will no longer feel the urge to get recognition and fulfillment from people, you won’t need to promote self anymore. All you would need is Christ, and Christ will be the one whom you seek to please.
- Treasure Hunt! Now is the time to fully immerse yourself in Biblical truth; this I find is so helpful. Replace anything that distracts with something that brings you closer to knowing your Savior. Get to know Him!
“Immerse yourself in His Word and His presence. Become transfixed upon His beauty and splendor. As you gaze upon Him, your outward appearance will reflect His radiance…” – Leslie Ludy
Isn’t that grand? We have the chance to reflect Christ, inside-out to those around us!
3. Live Outwardly- One thing that strikes me about Jesus was the servant’s heart He had, even though He is the King of Kings! How He was humbled to come and save the likes of myself….
Taking on Christ’s life means we take on His servanthood; in giving control of our soul and body, Christ desires to infill us and we therefore become not only His heart & soul on earth but also His hands and feet. What a privilege!
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
Whose applause are you living for; the World’s or Heavens? Living for Heaven’s applause leaves no room for focus on oneself, but it’s worth it- to hear Him say “Well Done!” God Bless!
