Is femininity all flowers, tea, dresses and domestics? Is femininity proving that your stronger, better, and smarter than everyone else? Is femininity creating yourself to look like a doll, making good house décor?

Some of us find femininity so difficult that we give up altogether and learn to turn our noses up on anything delicate or flowery. As my own journey in discovering true femininity has gone, I’ve discovered that it’s all to easy to turn to culture to define what femininity is. Whether it be Jane Austen’s Elizabeth Bennet, the 1950’s house-wife or today’s all out feminist… what has kept us from going back to the Bible?

Why do we limit the Bible’s definition of femininity to our fallen culture?!

“But Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you”

These are the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:33; and this phrase pretty much sums up the purpose of the Christian walk. God made people to have a relationship with Him, to worship Him and live eternally with Him. So why did God bring the distinction of femininity into the picture?

Adam, recently created had just finished naming the animals, and had realized there was no helper suitable for him, God said

“It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him and help meet for him.” (Genesis 2:18)

Let’s take a look at some other things God’s word has to say about it,

“For man was not made from woman, but woman from man.  Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.”

– 1 Cor. 11: 8-9 –

“… Woman is the glory of man”  & “A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband.”

– 1Cor. 11:7  & Proverbs 12:4 –

So in a more simplistic way, God’s word makes it clear that mankind’s purpose is to have a relationship with Him and to build His kingdom.

Femininity finds it’s role in this area in being a complimentary helpmeet, and adornment to mankind.

I hope this all helps clear the fog a little, earlier I had been trying to formulate a definition of femininity in my head, and I see that it’s already defined in God’s word. There is so much more to be said about the topic, so stay tuned for more posts on Femininity. God Bless!

P.S. One of my favourite authors- Nancy DeMoss Wolgemouth shared this quote;

"It is time for women
of biblical faith to reclaim our
territory. We know the Designer.
We have His instruction manual.
If we don't display the Divine
design of His female creation,
no one will. But if we do, it will
be a profound testimony to a
watching, needy world."
